Will Guillermo Del Toro lead the ‘Dark Universe’?
Universal Pictures approached Guillermo del Toro who is known for his excellent movie making for bringing their ‘Dark Universe’ to life. In a recent interview with Time Talk, Guillermo himself made this revelation.
He also added in a regretful tone that “ I’ve said no to things that are enormous and I’ve never looked back. The only time I repent I didn’t do something was in 2007 when Universal, in an incredibly gentle and beautiful manner said, ‘do you want to take over the Monster Universe’? And they gave me the reins of several properties, and I didn’t do it. So this is a confessional moment, I repent. That’s the only thing. Mistakes teach you a lot. I think you learn more from failure and mistakes than you do from success”. The reason for rejecting the offer was his hectic schedule during the making of Hellboy and Hellboy 2.
Del Toro who made his presence felt in the Hollywood by directing movies like Hellboy & Pan’s Labyrinth. Each of his creation till this date has one thing common, that is mystical creatures. His recent film ‘The Shape of Water’ is winning accolades all over the world and is an inspiration from ‘Creature from the Blue Lagoon’. It’s not only that he has worked on drama or art movies, but he also has out n out action movie like Pacific Rim to his credit.
Now Universal Pictures have failed in giving a perfect launch to its ‘Dark Universe’ because of The Mummy’s failure, and the future of the connected monster universe is doubtful. Let’s hope now Universal gives a call to Del Toro again and the man known for elegantly presenting creatures on the screen brings a much more vast monster universe to us.
