Acer launched a new entry to its popular Predator linuep, the Acer Predator Helios 500, in India. The Laptop come with a GTX 1070 along with upto Core i9. The new Predator Helios 500 features a 144 Hz refresh rate screen along with an RGB keyboard.
The Legendary Predator Lineup
The Predator lineup is one of the most popular gaming lineup. The laptops are built like a tank and have jaw-dropping specs. The Acer Predator Helios 300 was a phenomenon when it launched. It was the cheapest laptop that shipped with a GTX 1060. At only about $1000, it had no competition. The Predator Helios lineup was due for a refresh. And we believe it got a worthy successor.
Acer Predator Helios 500 features
The Acer Predator Helios 500 features 2 CPU options. You can select either the overclockable 6-core 8th gen i9 8950HK, or you can go with the popular 8-core Ryzen 2700. If you go the i9 route, you have an Nvidia GTX 1070 waiting for you. The 8GB card is one of the most powerful graphic cards in the industry, only triumphed by the GTX 1080 and 1080ti. It runs any AAA title at the highest settings with relative ease. If you are an AMD aficionado, and choose the Ryzen 2700, you get the AMD Vega 56 Graphic card. The Graphic card is comparable to the GTX 1070 (and even beats it at some titles like Battlefield 1).
Apart from these, the new Predator Helios 500 features 16 GB of High speed DDR4 RAM, expandable upto 64 GB. The main highlight of the laptop is the display. You get 2 options to choose from. One is a 17.3-inch 4K panel at 60Hz which looks absolutely stunning. The other is a 17.3-inch Full HD panel. Why would one choose a Full-HD panel over a 4K panel? Simple, it is clocked at a 144Hz refresh rate. The display is so butter smooth that you will soon forget what 60Hz gameplay even felt like. Both the panels are G-Sync enabled, with the AMD Vega version coming with Free-Sync.
The Storage options include a Single HDD port wth two M.2 SSD slots in Raid 0. Therefore you can have a single HDD upto 2 TB and upto 2 SSDs (512GB total) in a Raid 0 configuration. The Helios 500 features a 2.1 speaker configuration with a dedicated sub-woofer, along with Waves NX 360-sound for headphones.
Which new Predator to choose?
If you are a dedicated gamer and only the framerates matter to you, go for the i9+GTX 1070 config. If you are also into content creation and will use your laptops for things other than gaming, we recommend the AMD SKU. These start at Rs 2,49,000. An i7 8750H model is also coming and will start at Rs 1,99,999. As for the screen, we highly recommend the FHD + 144Hz display as it just looks absolutely stunning. But if you do require those extra pixels, then do go for the 4K panel. The laptop looks great in every aspect and we highly recommend it.
