Captain Marvel May Link To Iron Man 2 And Avengers

MCU’s this phase has been a bit of a haphazard with Avengers: Infinity War releasing before Ant-Man and the Wasp. And now Captain Marvel is releasing in 2019 and is set even the before the setting up of the Avengers Initiative. But how will Captain Marvel set connections to the future considering her return in Avengers 4? From the past Marvel movies, there are two connections to Captain Marvel – The Project P.E.G.A.S.U.S. and the Tesseract.

The Project P.E.G.A.S.U.S. connection

In the comics, P.E.G.A.S.U.S. is a scientific base located in the Adirondack Mountains. It was initially intended to research alternative forms of energy, but gradually became a centre for some of the world’s most advanced technology. Over the years, P.E.G.A.S.U.S. has been associated with a large number of superheroes, most notably including the Hulk, the Thing, Quasar, and Nova. At times, it’s even served as a prison that housed some of the world’s most dangerous energy-based supervillains.

In the comics of the Secret Invasion, the Skrull understood the project’s importance and knew that they would need to infiltrate it if they have to carry out their plan successfully. They would have been successful if not for NOVA.

P.E.G.A.S.U.S. has already been shown in the MCU. In Iron Man 2, Tony Stark retrieved technology that his father had been working on, one of which was labelled “Project P.E.G.A.S.U.S…” which clearly stated that the project had been started in the time of Howard Stark, and also when Captain Marvel is set. In an extended scene of the same film showed Stark made another reference to the project when he asked JARVIS to call-up records on “Projects P.E.G.A.S.U.S., Exodus, and Goliath.”

Finally, Project P.E.G.A.S.U.S. finally made its official debut in The Avengers. As official Guidebooks have explained, the MCU’s P.E.G.A.S.U.S. was a joint venture between S.H.I.E.L.D. and NASA. One of the leading facilities was used in the study of Tesseract. This P.E.G.A.S.U.S. base was destroyed when Loki arrived on Earth at the beginning of The Avengers, and also it’s unknown whether or not S.H.I.E.L.D. had any other P.E.G.A.S.U.S. installations.

All these actively direct to the fact that Captain Marvel could use the Project P.E.G.A.S.U.S. connection.

The Tesseract Connection

Howard Stark was the one to start the search for the Tesseract, and it can be safely assumed that it wasn’t long after that to transfer the Tesseract to the project base. It’s thus highly likely that all the way through the ’90s, the Tesseract was in possession of Project P.E.G.A.S.U.S. That Infinity Stone would thus form a direct link of Captain Marvel with Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4.

Also, it’s safe to assume that if the Skrulls attack the project base, they know what the worth and power of Tesseract are and thus want it for themselves.

Capturing the Tesseract would become one of their primary goals on Earth, and as a result, P.E.G.A.S.U.S. would be caught up on the front lines of the unending war between the Kree and the Skrulls.

Right now it’s still too early to say that these connections would set up Captain Marvel’s connection to present day MCU, but surely we can’t ignore them as well as they may be one of the necessary connections we may see when Captain Marvel and Avengers 4 release.
