Huawei confident Kirin 980 7nm chip will surpass Apple A12 Bionic processor

Huawei introduced its upcoming Kirin 980, and the company boasted it to be the world’s most powerful and intelligent chip at the IFA 2018. According to Huawei, the Kirin 980 is the world’s first chipset fabricated using 7nm process, housing more transistors per unit area. The company also claims Kirin 980 to be the world’s most powerful and intelligent chip right now which is 37% better in performance compared to the current powerful chipset for Android smartphones, Qualcomm Snapdragon 845. Now, the company claims Kirin 980 to be more powerful than the new A12 Bionic chip, which is currently powering the new iPhone XS series.

Talking more about the new Huawei Kirin 980, the AI-based chip is manufactured entirely by Huawei with the 7nm process, which makes Huawei the first company to do that. Huawei Kirin 980 features two paired super-big Cortex-A76 cores and a quad-core Cortex-A55 configuration, which process the data with more efficiency as compared to the current chipset.

Also, Huawei has compared the latest Kirin chipset with the Snapdragon 845, and in testing by the company, in all parameters, Kirin 980 beats SD 845. According to the company, in gaming, the Kirin 980 has 32% less power consumption and better performance, the 980 chipset produces 22% higher frame rates as compared to SD 845.

If you are supposed to be a tech enthusiast, you probably aware of the new A12 Bionic chip, that Apple launched in the recent iPhone event. The A12 Bionic processor powers the new iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR with improved efficiency.

The Chinese tech giant talked about the comparison of the new Kirin 980 with the A12 Bionic in an interview with TechRadar. Huawei is confident that their mobile chipset is superior to the A12 Bionic chipset, though the company didn’t show any results of performance of chips.

The company believes that the long-term development of the new Kirin 980 and the new AI technology which is powered by dual-core NPU will be a factor which will allow Kirin 980 to outperform A12 Bionic in performance.

Brody Li, Senior Product Director, Huawei, said, “Being a pioneer in AI last year, we’re thrilled to launch the Kirin 980 equipped with the industry’s first dual NPU, one of industry’s first. The Kirin 980 has been designed as an all-around powerhouse that not only features outstanding AI capabilities but also brings cutting-edge raw performance to consumers.”
