India will play a significant role in Instagram’s growth as the approaches 1 billion active monthly users, says Co-Founder Mike Krieger. The executive reports that the country is a “huge contributor” to Instagram’s growth from 700 million to 800 million users and that it is seen as a “market with a lot of promise and excitement.”
The company’s analytics arm extrapolated this data to realize India’s contribution in reaching the 1 billion-user mark. The executive also pointed that Instagram’s product and engineering teams are performing ground research in India, talking to people about their preferences.
Krieger reported that Facebook’s phenomenal popularity in India has helped Instagram share a similar growth momentum. He also pointed out that the company has rolled out new features like stories in the web browser to attract more users from data-deficient countries like India.
