Irish Youngster Lands Role In Kenneth Branagh Directed ‘Artemis Fowl’

Disney Revealed The Lead Actor & Other Details for Fantasy Film ‘Artemis Fowl’

Disney is bringing yet another fantasy film ‘Artemis Fowl’ based on the highly acclaimed novel by the same name. The book is written by the Irish author Eoin Colfer and was released in the year 2001. As per the reports, the film was in writing stage in the year 2008 and was being directed by Jim Sheridan. However, that project got shelved, and now as per the new updates, Kenneth Branagh is at the helm for this one.


The story revolves around a twelve-year-old criminal mastermind who kidnaps a fairy to restore back his family’s fortune. The whole Artemis series develops over the eight books. The novel received the excellent critical response and won several awards. Kenneth Branagh will surely make ‘Artemis Fowl’ a fantastic extravaganza for the audiences. As he had an experience of bringing Norse mythology to life with Thor.

Disney also revealed that an Irish newcomer Ferdia Shaw would play the lead character. He is shortlisted from the 1200 candidates who auditioned for the role. He will portray the role alongside the ever enigmatic Judy Dench and Josh Gad, who will play “Commander Root, the steely leader of the fairy police force” and Mulch Diggums, a kleptomaniacal dwarf who works for the fairies ” respectively.

After doing the excellent work on ‘Murder On the Orient Express’ a murder mystery film, it will be exciting to see how Branagh brings this young-fantasy novel to life. The movie will hit the theaters on August 9, 2019.

Instead, he knows that the only way to separate the little people from their stash is to kidnap one of them and wait for the ransom to arrive.
