While the MCU’s future is still unpredictable after what the mad titan did in Infinity War, fans were given a ray of hope by Marvel studios Kevin Feige. Feige told the press at Ant-Man and the Wasp press conference that Doctor Strange is up for his sequel and will return! In the press conference, Feige was interviewed and was asked about the next steps of MCU after Infinity War and Avengers 4. He quickly made his point to tell that Stephen Strange is all set to return to the big screen with Doctor Strange 2.
“Sometimes it’s where do those characters pop up? [Doctor] Strange, you know, whenever we do another Strange [movie], which we will do, it will be a number of years from the first Strange, and yet he’s a very big part of Infinity War,” Feige explained. “So it is just a good problem to have when you have too many beloved characters that people want to see more of, whilst keeping to our core belief that we need to keep exploring nuance and keep doing different types of things.”
So, according to Feige, the Strange will return on the big screen even if it takes ‘a number of years’. Strange had his first stand-alone movie after which he appeared in Thor: Ragnarok and Avengers: Infinity War. Also, Feige said that they ‘need to explore’ more nuance and keep doing different things. This statement clearly indicated that there is no defined comic arc on which the next Strange movie will be set up as fan’s had previously thought. Some has even speculated the villain of Doctor Strange 2 to be Mordo or Nightmare. But Feige’s comment that they still need to explore just puts the fan’s predictions as only speculations. But as the post-credit scenes suggested, Mordo may be an antagonist in the movie.
Most probably, Doctor Strange will be teaming up with other new age characters to form a group may be the next set of Avengers but still we’ll need to wait and see what’s in the bag for Strange. We may see him team up with characters like – Spider-Man, the Guardians of the Galaxy, and Black Panther as they all are set to return after Avengers 4 as well. But how the integration of magic with science turns out to be will be a delight to watch.
