MCU will soon have female superheroes taking lead as well. It has been 10 years since the start of MCU with the fans’ favourite Iron Man. Since then, many other superheroes have been inducted into the list. Initially, MCU had something of gender bias, with all superheroes being the male except for Black Widow.
But recently, that’s been changing a little. Also, there’s a recent news of Tessa Thompson, Brie Larson, and Scarlett Johansson pitching an idea about a film starring only the female superheroes to Kevin Feige and Thompson indicated that Marvel is ‘interested’ in the concept.
In a recent press release on the Ant-Man and the Wasp. Feige avoided giving any news about Avengers 4 and accepted that he’s ‘cagey’ about it. And then when asked about this all-female superhero film, Kevin shed some words on the gender equality matter and said – “But, as the plan goes forward I think frankly we’ll be … you know, eventually I think we’re going to reach a time where it’s not just … listen, it would be amazing to see all of our female characters the way we have seen … most, never all male, but primarily male. I think we’re getting to the point soon where we have so many great female characters that those are just our heroes as opposed to when are they all female, all male. It’s just the Marvel heroes, more than half of which will be women.”
Kevin’s comment indicated that he envisions a time when MCU will have at least half or more than half female characters. Right now, female superheroes are a minority in the MCU, but it has been changing for quite some time. Black Panther featured a wealth of female characters, most notably Okoye, Nakia, and the super-genius Shuri. Marvel’s next film, Ant-Man & the Wasp, will see the two heroes work together as equal partners. And next year’s Captain Marvel will be the MCU’s first female-led superhero movie. Marvel still has a long way to go before they get to the point Feige imagines, but now they do have a direction to go into in this matter as well.
Infinity War saw some of the best fighting scenes. But one of the best scenes was Black Widow, Okoye and Scarlet Witch defeating Proxima Midnight. This scene gave fans Goosebumps and taste of what an all-female superhero movie will look like. Marvel has been on the track to embrace the diversity in superheroes. Films like Black Panther and Captain Marvel prove the studio’s intention too.
