BSNL just launched a new recharge scheme. With the BSNL Rs 171 recharge, you get 2GB daily data along with unlimited calling and 100 daily SMS. The new BSNL recharge is aimed at Jio’s Rs 198 recharge plan with similar benefits.
For a long time Reliance Jio has been the recharge king in India. By providing unlimited calls for as low as Rs 98, the company has won hearts all over the country. No other company has come close to offering the prices Jio offers. BSNL plans to take up the mantle and dethrone the current king. Earlier the company launched a Rs 499 plan for postpaid users which directly tackles Jio’s Rs 509 plan which did provide more data, but capped the daily limit.
The new BSNL recharge entitles a user to 2GB of data per day. After the FUP gets up, the speed reduces to a measly 40 kbps. Still the BSNL Rs 171 recharge provides enough data that you may not see the slow speed that often. Along with the huge data benefit, you also get unlimited calling. BSNL also bundles 100 SMSs per day.
The new BSNL recharge is made to take on both the Rs 149 and Rs 199 recharge by Jio. While the Rs 149 recharge provides only 1.5 GB per day, with BSNL with just a minor increase of Rs 22, you get 2GB data per day. As for the Rs 199 recharge which also gives you 2GB data per day, going with BSNL is still cheaper.
As for how successful the BSNL Rs 171 recharge will be, we are quite skeptical. On one hand it provides a lot of data for the money. But BSNL’s services are still a bit iffy at places. Aside from that, Jio provides a whole suite of Jio apps that give you paid services for freer. BSNL provides no such benefit. Still, the difference in price will attract a lot of customers. Let’s see what more BSNL has in store for us.
