Event DC and NRG Esports announced a new training house in Washington DC. DC will be the home form of NRG’s developmental Overwatch team for the upcoming contender series.This team will act as San Francisco Shock’s academy team in the Overwatch Contender Series. This move shows Event DC’ commitment toward the growth of eSport scene in the national capital. Last year NRG sports announced a partnership with Event DC to represent the city in the eSport.

Deputy Mayor expresses his views on the step of Event DC’s to make Washington, DC  a sports hub.

“Washington, DC is an innovative city with a flourishing creative economy that continues to position itself to attract new visitors, future residents and industries to bring new revenue to the city.  While technology is shaping the future of entertainment, esports is just another opportunity for us to showcase DC. Through Events DC’s esports initiative, the District remains committed to creating a hub for esports.

Max Brown Chairman and member of the Board of Directors for Events DC  was excited to hear the announcement made by NRG to choose the Washington, DC.

One of our priorities at Events DC over the last 18 months has been to create and execute an esports strategy to position Washington, DC as a leader in this important economic development and tourism space. We have done this through our ongoing sponsorship of NRG; our hosting of major esports events, and our brand building across the country. This move by NRG to locate a team here in the nation’s capital is further evidence that our esports efforts continue to gain traction and show a success.”


In addition to this NRG sports made an important announcement. They announced their full roster for the Overwatch Contenders 2018  season one.

  • Flex Tank – Eoghan “Smex” O’Neill  – London, England
  • Main Tank – Sangwan “Butcher” Yoon – Pohang, South Korea
  • Flex DPS – Ethan ” Stratus” Yankel  – Pittsburgh, PA
  • DPS – Daemin “Daemin” Kim– Seoul, South Korea

Overwatch Contenders 2018  season one will take place region wise in total 6 regions. Each region will have 12 teams competing in the league.

As for NRG, their team will take part in North America region and battle for the prize pool of $185,040.Best of luck for them.
