World’s first Robot Citizen Sophia visited IIT Bombay for Tech Fest

Sophia, world’s first citizen robot visited IIT Bombay, to attend annual college festival, Tech Fest from 29th December to 31st December.

The Tech Fest, is a very special annual technology event which has been visited by the former Presidents of India, such as Pranab Mukherjee and Hamid Hamid Karzai, as well as Nobel Laureate Randy Schekman for delivering speech on various subjects.


But this time the main star of the whole event was, the robot, Sophia. Talking about the robot, it was developed by roboticist David Hanson and his company Hanson Robotics. She was firstly activated in 2015 and came to international renown in October 2017 after she was recognized as a citizen by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. And after that Sophia had been to lot of interviews around the globe.

At IIT Bombay, Sophia excited the students by her presence on the stage on 2nd day of the fest. There she involved in a interview, which questions were chosen from a pool of entries received through the online campaign, #AskSophia, launched specifically for the interview at Tech Fest. Sophia came on stage wearing a beautiful Saree, and introduced herself by saying “Namaste India”. The interview started with the questions, where is she now. What her sayings about India. Sophia answered very cleverly and her expressions were worth watching.

After some questions, the robot malfunctioned a little, and didn’t answer when she was asked, how can she be sustainable, when a lot has already been spent on her. This was a little stop to the event, but after taking some time, interview started again and enthusiasm in the audience raised again. And Sophia answered the questions very accurately and cleverly and amazed the whole audience.
