2018 is the year of notch as almost all the smartphone companies launched their “top notch” devices with a notch at the top. It seems that 2019 is going to be the year of completely bezel-less displays, seeing the current design trends. Firstly Vivo NEX then it’s sister company OPPO’s Find X and now the upcoming Xiaomi ’s Mi Mix 3, all these smartphones feature/will feature a completely bezel-less display with screen to body ratio above 90%. Making such displays comes with the cost of finding alternatives to place the elements which are present at top of phones to a suitable place.
According to the teaser, the Mi Mix 3 will arrive with a pop-up selfie camera and an under-display fingerprint scanner, similar to the what we have seen in Vivo NEX. Additionally, the camera may also feature a LED flash. The alleged renders show that the phone includes a LED flash enabled pop-up camera. Xiaomi can follow what Vivo has done to the Vivo NEX to get rid of all the elements at the top but here’s thing, Xiaomi Mi 8 features special hardware for 3D recognition which cannot be encased inside a notch, or maybe? Let’s see what Xiaomi does here. At the back, there is a vertical camera setup similar to other Xiaomi phones which had been launched in recent times.
There are no details about the specifications of this upcoming phone but since it will be a flagship device, it will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset running on MIUI 10 on top of Android 9.0. Furthermore, it is expected to have 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. Mi Mix 3 is expected to launch in September 2018.
